We recently had the pleasure of attending the Menznau Yodeling Festival, which occurred from June 27 to June 29, 2025. A wristband costing 20 Swiss Francs (about 25 USD) for adults, while children were free, granted access to various competition venues where young children to the young at heart showcased their yodeling and alphorn talents before panels of judges and enthusiastic audiences.
The town effectively transformed itself, closing down to accommodate the festival, with rows of tents lining the main street and utilizing every available space. One particularly noteworthy feature (where we spent considerable time) was the circular bar located where the town roundabout typically lies. Spontaneous alphorn and yodeling performances provided our entertainment, while sipping a nice cold Swiss beer from the tap. A nearby sprinkler provided endless entertainment for our kids on this particularly hot summer day.

Throughout the various fest tents, yodeling groups engaged in impromptu song performances, with each song earning the group a complimentary round of beer—an arrangement that appeared to benefit everyone involved.

Local vendors offered alphorns and other handcrafted items. Our kids loved getting to try to blow these horns —much to our surprise, they demonstrated greater success than the adults!
The celebration continued late into the night, with the final shuttle to the nearby park and ride departing at 4 AM, not that we stayed that long with our kids in tow!

Switzerland hosts various yodeling festivals in different regions throughout the year, with this event representing a vibrant celebration of the central region. The festival exuded a distinctly local ambiance, highlighted by the abundance of Swiss license plates in the park and ride lot. For anyone planning a trip to Switzerland, researching the local festivals is highly recommended, as this experience beautifully showcased the richness of Swiss culture, community, and tradition, along with the remarkable talents of talented local musicians.
